Gardening & Survival Topics
Why should I start a garden?
Growing a garden is not just good therapy it can be one of the most important things you can do for your family’s health. All previous generations of Americans have depended on gardens to feed their families and make ends meet. Today, we have come to rely on large grocery chain stores to provide the nutrition to our tables. Fruit is picked too early or kept too long with much of the nutrients lost as a consequence of mass production.
In recent years we have all been confronted with news stories of ecoli bacteria tainted vegetables with many people becoming ill from consumption of these foods. We all realize that it could in fact happen to any of us since these foods come from questionable sources and suspect safety practices. Pesticides and other chemicals introduced to vegetable and herbs during their growing cycles can leave residue on the plants and subsequently consumed.
Aside from these concerns, the planting, nurturing and harvest of crops from your own garden is gratifying in many ways. Tending a garden provides a true sense of accomplishment and the satisfaction of enjoying fresh vegetables and herbs. Canned and pickled vegetables can extend that satisfaction into the winter months.
In your garden, you have complete control of quality and the knowledge that the dozens of pounds of vegetables produced is a worry-free, untainted and wholesome source of food for you and your family.
Survival
We believe that unexpected things can and will happen. Through a complex set of global variables, social revolutions and natural catastrophes, unexpected events could impact each of our lives. Few times in human history has the sense of uncertainty been on mind as much as today. While we don’t s espouse doomsday, we do encourage everyone to plan for uncertainty and be prepared for things that could greatly affect your family’s well being and survival. Food tops the list (after water) as the most important thing that we need to survive. Not just food for now but food for next week and next month.
Having an emergency kit and plan of action can make the difference between survival or the alternative. That is why we created the emergency seed canisters. Each of our sealed canisters have five seed packets; Vegetable Seed; Mexican Seed (peppers), Herb Seed and Wildflower Seed. Sealed from air and moisture, these canisters can be there when the unexpected happens.
